MILITARY/ AEROSPACE AVIONICS: Overview
Avionics covers a number of categories under aviation electronics, and it envelopes all electronic systems designed for use on an aircraft. At a basic level this comprises communications, navigation and the display and management of multiple systems. It also comprises the literally hundreds of systems that are fitted to aircraft to meet numerous requirements. Increasing bandwidth requirements for better performance are required for optical and infrared image sensors, high-resolution cockpit displays, and the requirements for network-centric warfare. In addition, designers have to achieve higher levels of integration, while catering to weight and space constraints. A new dimension is space, where the effects of radiation have to be countered by innovative shielding of electronic devices to ensure reliability.
